We had 17 people attend last Sunday's meeting. Members of Humanists of the Treasure Coast decided to meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month, at 10:30 AM from now until the end of the year, at which time we will examine if there should be a change in time or frequency of meetings.
Our last meeting included a description of the various humanist oriented organizations that we can utilize for information, eg. - American Ethical Union, American Humanist Association, American Atheists, Council for Secular Humanism, Freedom from Religion Foundation, Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
Contact us for directions to our next meeting scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 22 , 10:30 AM on Hutchinson Island. I will facilitate the meeting which will feature Thanksgiving Celebrations Around the World presented by board member, Marcia Davis. Our meetings include inspirational and thought provoking readings with feedback and comments by participants. Our members are independent thinking individuals and families who attempt to be ethical but are not traditionally religious.
Humanists of the Treasure Coast is continuing to evolve and welcomes your input, questions, and participation. I look forward to hearing from you, Joe Beck

October 10, 2009
After spending the last two months helping my daughter prepare her house in Hamburg NY for sale, I am returning to Stuart Florida effective October 11, just in time to host the first meeting of Humanists of the Treasure Coast.
Our first meeting is scheduled for 1 PM Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 on Hutchinson Island , Stuart Florida. If you consider yourself ethical but not religious then you are one of us, and we invite you to join us in planning activities for Humanists of the Treasure Coast.
We are looking for meeting places near Stuart, Jupiter and Vero Beach and look forward to your suggestions. We are planning social activities and are in the process of picking a community service project that we can all support. Humanists give generously of their time and treasure but usually do so as individuals rather than as members of an organized group. We encourage Humanists to identify themselves as members of Humanists of the Treasure Coast when they contribute to community or social causes as one way of educating the broader community about the many contributions that humanists, atheists and agnostics make to the general welfare of the greater community of humankind.
For more information about our meeting feel free to contact me, Joe Beck, at 772 934 6167.

Yesterday we updated the, Humanists of the Treasure Coast, www.humtc.com webpage and inserted a few pictures. The site is greatly improved but we still need to do some editing.
Check our ad in the local Orange Peel Gazette and let me know what you think about it. I am working on a Billboard which will say something like this:
One of our members, an attorney, has volunteered to set us up as a not for profit, so we are making progress.
Humanistically yours, Joe Beck

Raising Ethical Children Without Traditional Religion
Raising ethical children without gods sounds like an oxymoron to the religious right, but millions of parents have done just that, and many are doing this daily. I'm proud to be one of those parents. My daughter is 26 now, but you never stop being a parent and trying to impart useful, humanist values to your offspring.
I invite all humanist parents, especially those within 50 miles of Stuart Florida, to share their questions and advice on parenting without traditional religion. A humanist family group will begin meeting in Stuart, Florida at 11Am, November 1, 2009 and we need all of the support and publicity that we can get. A pot luck luncheon will follow.
We will have a little music, " Imagine There's No Heaven", " Teach Your Children Well"," High Hopes","When You Walk Through A Storm", to name a few tunes. A few readings and some inspirational conversation with the parents and children in attendance will follow.
Next will be a presentation on "Raising Children From a Humanist Perspective" by Joe Beck
( that's me). I will draw upon my experiences as a Humanist Parent, former Director of Family Life Education , Psychiatric Social Worker , Stress Management Consultant, and Humanist Celebrant ( with the legal rights of a minister).
Resources for my presentation include; Parenting Beyond Belief, Edited by Dale McGowan and Raising Freethinkers, by Dale McGowan, Moleen Matsumura, Amanda Metskas, and Jan Devor.
I look forward to your comments and suggestions, Joe Beck
