Humanists of the Treasure Coast oppose burning of the Qur'an, we promote mutual respect.
Humanists of the Treasure Coast Inc, recognizes that the right to burn secular and religious books, or national flags is guaranteed under our constitution. As a matter of common courtesy, and out of a desire to promote a tranquil society we oppose such activities. While we find no evidence for the existence of the supernatural or the divine inspiration of books, we advocate a rational, respectful evaluation of all beliefs and their "sacred" books. Accordingly, we urge our fellow citizens to boycott the burning of the Quar'an scheduled by a Christian pastor in Florida this Saturday, and instead, set aside a minute of their time at Noon, on Saturday, September 11, for quiet reflection of the need to practice the Golden Rule of treating others as we would like them to treat us.

We offer support and Need your Help.
Humanists of the Treasure Coast expands its Humanist Community and Services from Vero Beach to Jupiter. We now have about 50 members with meetings in Stuart and Vero Beach. We hope to start a meeting in the Jupiter area this August. Contact www.HUMTC.com for details.
Our NPR radio spot on 88.9 FM was delivered as follows: " If you are one of the millions of parents striving to raise ethical children without traditional religion, Humanists of the Treasure Coast is available to provide you with a community as well as social and emotional support".
Our future advertisements will deal with drug/alcohol problems, dealing with life's stresses from a Humanist Perspective, and the importance of keeping religion and government separate.
WHAT WE NEED - People to work on our website, an attorney to help us deal with discrimination against Humanists here on the Treasure Coast, parents to lead our parent group, volunteers to visit with our house bound and hospitalized fellow Humanists.

May 2010 UPDATE
Last Saturday's picnic in Stuart Fl attracted 17 of our members. We continue to meet biweekly, check us out at Meetup for details or email me at joebeck1@mac.com.
We are now an official not for profit corporation in the state of Florida and are working towards becoming a 501 C3 corp which will allow donors to deduct their contributions to us from their income tax.
Leslie, one of our members, has started a book club discussion and Andrew, another member, is going to update our facebook page.
Let me know if you have any suggestions re topics that you would like us to discuss.
Looking forward to hearing from you, Joe Beck
